Executive Eats

For many employees around the world, experiencing what Microsoft has dubbed the ‘infinite workday’ has become the norm, with work regularly spilling into evenings and weekends. This blurring of professional and personal boundaries is making it increasingly difficult to switch off and recover. Yet carving out even one small moment each day to support mind, mood, and body makes a meaningful difference – and cooking is just the way to do it.

This idea sits at the heart of Executive Eats: The cookbook for a better working life (Practical Inspiration Publishing) by Adam Kingl, a global executive educator, and Jakub Radzikowski, a scientist and fine-dining culinary professional. Unlike most specialised cookbooks, which tend to focus on reducing calories, optimising time, or saving money, Executive Eats takes a uniquely different approach, exploring how the right diet can improve workplace performance, including focus, clarity, energy, and creativity. Building on this, the authors demonstrate how the act of cooking itself is a powerful route to greater wellbeing, presenting an opportunity to slow down, practice mindfulness, and reset while caring for ourselves with intention.

Designed not only for busy executives but for anyone who wants to make better choices and build a healthier, more balanced working life, the book is much more than just a collection of recipes. Drawing on rigorous research across a variety of fields, including cognitive science, nutrition, and gastronomy, the authors translate emerging insights and complex literature into practical guidance on how food can enhance both physical and mental states. They explain exactly how specific individual compounds or ingredients can promote certain desired outcomes, such as improved mood or better focus.

Structured into ten easy-to-implement chapters, Executive Eats covers different wellness areas impacting working life, like energy and concentration. The authors also illustrate how cooking can unlock innovation at work, bring comfort, and be used to celebrate progress and success. Alongside these are themes such as powering through the morning, afternoon pick-me-ups, treats for the office, and recipes that support detoxification.

Each chapter opens with an overview of the latest research, followed by a carefully curated selection of ten recipes. In each recipe introduction, the authors share the reasoning behind their selection, along with personal tips and insights. By combining executive education and Le Cordon Bleu-level culinary expertise with their deep passion for food, readers are inspired to try out new recipes, incorporate their favourite dishes into their regular repertoire, get creative, and above all, adopt mindful habits that support long-term wellbeing.

Today’s ‘always-on’ workplace culture leaves people with little to no space for proper physical and mental recovery. Executive Eats is an important reminder that the act of cooking can be a meaningful way to take a much-needed break. When cooking is treated not as another chore on the to-do list but rather as an intentional moment of renewal, repeated day after day, it’s possible to reset the mind, nourish the body, and sustain the energy needed to meet the many demands of modern working life.

Executive Eats by Adam Kingl and Jakub Radzikowski is available on Amazon and in all good bookshops.
